About Us
Tri-City Plating Co. was founded in 1967 by C.R. Curt Campbell and Clarence “Shorty” Carrier. They had been co-workers at a local factory and decided to venture out on their own. The plating process intrigued them and the need for bumpers to be straightened and re-chromed was evident. They began to run local and regional truck routes to body shops as a weekly service. Their routes included most of East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Western North Carolina.
In 1977, Shorty passed away and his son Chuck worked to become Campbell’s new partner. They continued the local and regional service to body shops through the next two decades. As automakers replaced chrome bumpers with rubber covers, Chuck turned the operations focus and adjusted the process to better meet the needs of classic car enthusiast. With Chuck Carrier as owner and his son Chip involved in the daily operations, Tri-City Plating Co. has served the classic car restoration community for three generations with honesty and integrity.
